Getting to know Samson
Well, today's our third day w/our new German Shepherd pup, Samson. He was a couple days later getting here than we'd originally planned, so our anticipation was definitely peaked. The kids of course adore him, and so do we. He's doing great and starting to feel more relaxed today for sure....the ferrets still make him skittish, but we're just introducing them, for a minute or so each day, until eventually he'll realize they won't hurt him. He's still limping a little on his front right paw, but doing better than he was when we first brought him home. We're thinking he must have been hurt during his transport on the airline from Memphis to here.
We've noticed he's remarkably gentle and laid back. Also, he's quite smart, and eager to please. Already this morning I was thrilled to find him sitting at the door, and when I came over to him he looked up at me and whimpered a little bit....sure enough, when I took him out, he did need to go. What a good boy he is!
We are house/crate training him, and he already likes his "bed", where he sleeps at night. We have it right beside us, on Chris's side of the bed. As long as he knows we're in there w/him, he doesn't whimper at all. When we went out shopping yesterday he went in w/no problems. We were gone for 3 hrs, returned to no mess and took him out immediately. But since we're home mostly, we're just keeping a close eye on him throughout the days. Chris did build an awesome pen on the side of the house, complete w/an igloo dog house, for him to be kept in anytime we're gone all day, or over night, which isn't often anyways.
And let me tell ya, he likes to be right under our feet, or on our lap! We've put a pillow down under the computer table for him b/c he likes to lounge and nap there while we're working at the computer, but he's taken to laying right right beneath us, under the office chair instead! LOL! He's all of 6" closer that way....silly pup!
