the long way around...
Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, "Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt."
~ Exodus 13.17
Sometimes it may seem like we're going the long way around in our deliverance... but He is likely saving us from some greater battles which we could not withstand. We do not yet have the advantage of a long range perspective by which to view our own situation, but I've learned from experiece as I've walked with Him, that His long ways are for my own good.
We may be tempted to think that we know the way things should turn out, which route we should be on to *get here or there*... but no, only He can see the Philistines encamped ahead, and in His great mercy, He takes us another way... the long way around. But by this way, His Way, we shall make it to where we are going, we shall end up reaching the land flowing with milk and honey, rather than retreating in defeat... and returning to the bondage of Egypt for being faint of heart, for being worn out by battles we are not yet ready to meet.
Thank you Lord, for leading me in this way, though it be longer, it is right in Your eyes.
